2024 8U EWCL League

8U Softball: Recommended for girls ages 7-8 by September 1, 2023.

DYBSA 8U softball participates in the EWCL league.

Players will focus on softball skill development and the rules of the game. The season is comprised of practices, games against other teams within the EWCL house league, and an end-of-the-season tournament. The EWCL league includes Delano, Buffalo, Rogers, Rockford, Hanover, Orono and St. Michael teams.

  • Practices start May 1 and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays. Due to the number of teams and available fields, practice times will vary.
  • Games are scheduled to be played on Mondays and Wednesdays starting Wednesday, May 15, and running through June 26. During school, one game will be played per week, and then there will be two games per week when school is out.
  • Games are held in Delano, Rockford, Buffalo, Rogers, Orono, or St. Michael.
  • The EWCL holds an end-of-season playoff at the end of June. The tournament will occur on Monday, June 17, Monday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 26 (subject to change).
  • T-Shirts will be provided for each player.
  • Parents are responsible for socks/pants for their player(s).
    • Please purchase or use black pants for your 8U player.

Please bring a glove, helmet, and bat every day to softball. The DYBSA will provide a limited number of helmets and bats for teams if your child doesn’t have their own.

We want to share helmets as little as possible to help stop the spread of lice. It is highly recommended that all players purchase their own helmets to use during the season.

Please write your child’s name on any items they bring so we can return them to the correct person if they are forgotten.

Recommended for girls ages 7-8 by 9/1/23

Requirements for 8U level softball players to move to the 10U level are listed below.

  • The athlete has played two seasons in the 8U program.

  • The athlete must be within one year of the required minimum age for the 10U level. (September 1, 2014 to August 31, 2015) Birthdates)

  • The athlete must attend the 10U softball tryouts.

  • 8U Athletes wanting to move up must score higher than the lowest 10U player to stay at the 10U level.

    • If the athlete does not score higher than the lowest 10U player, they will be automatically moved back to the 8U program.

  • The number of available roster spots at the 10U level also determines if an athlete can move up.

    • Example: If only three roster spots are available at the 10U level and five athletes want to move up, only the three 8U players who scored the highest in the evaluations would be allowed to move up. The remaining 8U players would be transferred back to the 8U program.

  • 8U Players who qualify and move up are only eligible to play on the 10U EWC team.

To start the move-up process, please register your child for the 8U program and email the DYBSA Softball Registration Coordinator, Chris Runke, at ruch0101@gmail.com. If your athlete meets the above requirements, they will be moved to the 10U registration list to be included in the 10U tryout rosters.

If your athlete is moved to the 10U level, you will be billed for the difference between the 8U and 10U registration fees.

USA Softball Age Requirements

USA Softball is the governing organization for Delano Youth Softball. At the end of the 2023 season, USA Softball adjusted the age ranges for all softball levels. The chart for the 2024 season is listed below.

The change in age ranges will primarily affect athletes with birthdays between September 1 through December 31. Under the old age requirements, this group would have moved to the next level of play, but due to the changes implemented by USA Softball, they will remain at the level they played in last season (2023), depending on where their birthday falls in the chart below.
